Home Office

This is a STEC Community Project with the following aims

To assist unemployed residents of Merseyside to secure employment through the provision of waged learning opportunities with a focus upon Computer Recycling activities.

To promote recycling and environmental awareness

Participants can access waged training places at £145.50 per week (if aged 18-24 and New Deal eligible). Alternatively, "benefits plus" opportunities are available if preferred.

There is a broad range of qualifications which participants can access.

The Home Office Project creates a computer-recycling wheel by establishing links with local industry, large colleges, local authorities and environmentally-aware individuals who donate discarded computer systems. These are made safe and effectively "purged" before hardware and software installation takes place in order that these might have a second lease of life. These systems are then donated to Registered Charities and to community organisations.

The major thrust of the programme is to help our people secure longer-term employment. The work experience, the qualifications, the employed status and the consequent improvement of the Curriculum Vitae improve participants' employability. Additional support is then provided in Jobsearch Techniques with resources, Internet access and linkage to JET Centres and Jobcentre Plus.

STEC welcomes all applications - particularly from under-represented groups and we are happy to answer any queries via the enquiry page.
