Green Works is a STEC Community Project that promotes Environmental Improvements alongside the Employability of our Participants. Based at Dutch Farm in Garston, Green Works offers a wage of £145.50 per week (if aged 18-24 and New Deal eligible) or a "benefits plus" arrangement if this is preferred. The option is also open as Skills Training provision for people over 25 on the Work Based Learning for Adults Programme.
The work activities are determined by STEC's environmental contracts to deliver a garden maintenance service for elderly and disabled residents of Liverpool, together with improvements to open spaces.
Participants can access a variety of qualifications under the Skills Passport umbrella (First Aid, Health & Safety) and some personal development opportunities such as driving lessons. There is also access to National Vocational Qualifications in Amenity Horticulture (City & Guilds NVQ 2 in Landscaping 0329). This offers special focus upon Health & Safety, Machine Maintenance and Maintaining Planted Areas.
The main base for Green Works is the Dutch Farm in Garston. This site has, in the past eighteen months, become one of the prime environmental recycling centres in Liverpool with the launch of Rotters, a Community Composting Project which serves residents of Garston and the use of the site by South Liverpool Housing for recycling garden waste.
