The Care Sector on Merseyside continues to grow and offers a structured career framework to those with the interest, determination and personal dedication to serve other members of our communities who may not be in a position to care for themselves. Care work can be demanding but many carers feel a strong sense of personal fulfilment and satisfaction. In recent years, the Government has placed a great emphasis upon the need for Carers to access training and to hold qualifications. Whilst there has been a massive growth in the numbers of qualified carers, as the care sector develops, the need for training becomes more important than ever. This is good news for carers who can at last have access to training to acquire new skills or receive nationally-recognised accreditation for their existing skills.
STEC is able to offer a comprehensive range of training programmes to suit all requirements from the new carer with no prior experience through to the Senior Carer.
Induction to the Care Sector (Underpinning knowledge for the National Minimum Induction Standards - TOPSS)
The Induction programme provides new carers with the essential basic knowledge to commence work in this sector. The Principles of Good Care Practice, The Care Organisation / Employer, Understanding the needs of the Service User, Health & Safety in the Care Context and Understanding the Impact of the Service Upon The Service User are the main topics. Skills Passport Courses such as Health & Safety, Basic Food Hygiene, Moving & Handling, Infection Control and Emergency Procedures can also be arranged.
The NVQ at Level 2 is the statement of competence of the Care Assistant. Candidates will undertake a Programme of Underpinning Knowledge at STEC and NVQ Assessment in the workplace. Activities reflect the daily work routines of the carer in a nursing or domiciliary care setting - Assisting mobility, feeding, bathing etc.
The NVQ at Level 3 reflects more supervisory-level care work.
